It was all about the strapless or sheer-sleeve look on the red carpet at the 2013 Academy Awards. Some of the stars caught the fashion world off guard with a slit in the middle of their dress, but it was common among quite a few of them.

Many of the actresses wore strapless dresses, just in different versions. Best actress nominee Jessica Chastain and presenter Kristen Stewart both stuck

with a simple look with a form fitting strapless dress that hung to the floor. Jennifer Garner, Helen Hunt, Olivia Munn, Gloria Reuben, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron,  Kerry Washington, and Reese Witherspoon also all wore form fitting strapless dresses, but with a small train in the back. Amy Adams, Jennifer Aniston, and best actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence wore strapless dresses that form fit at the top half and fanned out at the bottom half of their dress.

Whether they were wearing long sleeves, half sleeves, or short sleeves, many donned the sheer sleeve look. Lincoln star Sally Field also wore a red Valentino dress like Jennifer Aniston, with sheer long sleeves and a train. Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson also both wore dresses with sheer long sleeves. Georgina Chapman and Adele wore sheer half sleeve dresses.

Jennifer Hudson wore a Roberto Cavalli long sleeve dress with a slit in the middle. Naomie Harris and Nancy O'Dell took the same risk with a middle slit, instead of the traditional side slit.
