Besides the dazzling red carpet gowns and the discussion surrounding the best movies of the year, there is one more aspect of the Oscars that is always sure to please - the jokes. And this year certainly proved to be no different. Between host Seth MacFarlane throwing out concise but witty introductions, and celebrity duos keeping up clever banter, the audience was left chuckling in the wake of almost every nomination. However, a couple of jokes were more memorable than the rest.

One of the funniest jokes of the night would have to be the debut of Seth MacFarlane’s original song “We Saw Your Boobs” - a melodic montage of all the women in cinema that have graced the public with a view of their chest in a film. Some of the actresses mentioned were Jennifer Lawrence (whose we have yet to see), Scarlett Johansson, and Kate Winslet, (who actually received multiple mentions). The slightly vulgar, but lighthearted joke appeared to leave everyone in good spirits.

Another dialogue that inspired some laughter was the speech given by the cast of “The Avengers”, in which Jeremy Renner poked fun at Samuel Jackson by calling his face a “lunar landing surface”, due to working for “2.5 years, times 10, or a quarter of a century.” Jackson’s faux anger during the rest of the presenting left the audience giggling.

The short banter between Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum also produced some chuckles. Tatum seemed disturbed for having been “waxed” into Hollywood films, but Aniston assured him that the waxing is a common occurrence amongst big actors, and welcomed him to the “club”. This affirmation did not ease Tatum’s mind, but fortunately for viewers, Tatum’s discomforts came across as cute and smile-worthy.

Last, but surely not least, was the conversation between Mark Wahlberg and Ted (the talking teddybear from MacFarlane's recent film) encouraged outright laughter amongst spectators. Ted began by insisting that he be invited to the “big post Oscars Hollywood orgy party” that is apparently hosted by Jack Nicholson, (according to Mark Wahlberg). This lewd outburst was followed by an even more offensive comment by Ted insisting that he’s Jewish, and was in fact born “Theodore Shapiro”, because he claims that one only reaches success in the film industry if they are at least partially of Jewish heritage. Luckily, the relatively inappropriate comment came off as highly comical when generated by the infamous animated bear.

The plethora of jokes throughout the night undoubtedly amused the audience and kept the ceremony flowing seamlessly, making for one of the most entertaining award shows yet!
