White House Slams NRA Ad
The White House spoke out against the National Rifle Association Wednesday for issuing an ad mentioning the president's daughters leading up to Obama's announcement of new gun policies.
The NRA ad called the president hypocritical for using Secret Service detail for his two daughters, yet rejecting the group's proposal to place armed guards in schools.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said using the president's children as "the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly." He added, "Most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as pawns in a political fight."
The NRA issued its own statement on the issue, pointing out the ad is purely about "keeping our children safe."
"Whoever thinks the ad is about President Obama's daughters are missing the point completely or they're trying to change the subject," said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.
