Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett announced Tuesday that he was ready to file a suit in federal court over NCAA sanctions on Penn State University's football program, imposed after revelations of child sexual abuse by a former coach, Jerry Sandusky.

The governor's office will hold a press conference Wednesday at the Penn State campus where the governor will formally announce the antitrust suit against the athletic association.

Penn State accepted the punishment in July, which included a $60 million fine, a four-year bowl ban and the loss of 40 scholarships over four years.

But Pennsylvania politicians have routinely denounced the sanctions, particularly the fine, which goes towards the establishment of child abuse prevention grants, but only a fraction of which will be used inside Pennsylvania.

U.S. Congressman Charlie Dent said that provision was "unacceptable and unsatisfactory," shortly after the school made its first $12 million payment.

Though the sanctions are considered steep, school officials have been charged in a coverup of the Sandusky abuse, including former school president Graham Spanier and former athletic director Tim Curley.

Former head coach Joe Paterno, who passed away last January, was not charged before his death, but reports last year confirmed that he was fully aware of Sandusky's abuse even going back to 1998.

When announcing the sanctions in July, NCAA President Mark Emertt surmised that the school had engaged in "hero worship" and that a warped athletic culture.

Sandusky is currently facing a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
