This week's Weekly Address by President Obama focused on gun violence and what the Obama Administration is trying to do about gun issue in the United States. The address comes at the end of a week in which President Obama signed 23 executive orders and asked Congress to pass new gun legislation. The gun laws Obama asked Congress to consider are from the proposals Vice President Biden came up with after meetings with many interests related to the use of guns. In that same speech on January 16, 2013, the President said, "In the month since 20 precious children and six braze adults were violently taken from us at Sandy Hook Elementary, more than 900 of our fellow Americans have reportedly died at the end of a gun -- 900 in the past month."

During the address, President Obama reaffirmed his commitment to this problem. He said, "And in the weeks ahead, I will do everything in my power to make them a reality. Because while we may not be able to prevent every senseless act of violence in this country, if there is even one thing we can do to reduce it - if even one life can be saved - we've got an obligation to try."

The ban of military style assault weapons is not something new, there was a ban in place under President Clinton. President Obama also discussed his plan of reducing the amount bullets a magazine can hold. He called on Congress to institute "…a 10-round limit for magazines."

The Republican Party also has a weekly address and Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) spoke a lot about spending, including how much the deficit has increased under President Obama. He also said "…the Obama Administration has already informed Congress that for the fourth time in five years it will be late submitting a budget to your representatives." The Republican address did not say anything about gun control, which makes it evident that President Obama will have a struggle in Congress.
