Lance Armstrong apologized to the staff of his Livestrong cancer foundation hours before being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported. The cyclist said he was sorry for letting the organization down but did not confess to using banned drugs.

A source with direct knowledge of the 15-minute meeting told the Associated Press that Armstrong said he intended to restore the foundation’s reputation and urged employees to move forward in helping cancer patients and their families.

From CNN:

Some media outlets have reported that Armstrong has been strongly considering the possibility of a confession, possibly as a way to stem the tide of fleeing sponsors and as part of a long-term redemptive comeback plan.

But such a confession might lend weight to the lawsuits that could await him.

Armstrong, 41, was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles after being linked to a doping scandal by nearly a dozen other former cyclists who admitted to doping, CNN reported.

CNN reported that the cyclist has repeatedly denied allegations that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs and illegal blood transfusions during his cycling career.

Armstrong’s interview with Winfrey will air 9 p.m. ET Thursday on the Oprah Winfrey Network, according to CNN, where he is expected to make a limited confession to Winfrey about his involvement in the scandal.
