J.J. Abrams To Direct Star Wars: Episode VII

When Disney bought Lucasfilm last year, the company stated that they would be making new "Star Wars" films. Abrams was originally one of the favorites to direct the newest film in the series, however he told Entertainment Weekly that he wasn't interested.
Additionally, The Wrap reported that Ben Affleck was also considered for the job, but Disney ultimately went with Abrams. Disney had already selected Michael Arndt, the screenwriter for Little Miss Sunshine, to write the script for the new "Star Wars" movie.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to be released in 2015.
