Gun Control Fight Intensifies As Hundreds Rally Nationwide
Comments (1)
Today, hundreds of people are gathering at state capitals nationwide to rally against stricter gun control measures, ABC News reports.
The rallies held mostly at state capitals were organized by 'Guns Across America', an advocacy group upset by the recent push to ban assault weapons following the elementary school tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
Obama and gun control advocates have also called for a ban on high-capacity magazines and the implementation of stronger background checks for gun purchasers.
Gun owners and supporters are displeased with the proposed reforms and are attending the rallies en masse to send a strong message to lawmakers in Washington that they intend to continue to exercise their right to bear arms and the ammunition that comes with it.
"I feel every law-abiding citizen has a right to bear arms. It's a constitutional right. Nobody should try to take that away from us," said Joe Getchell of Pittsfield, Maine, who attended a rally in Augusta rally.
