"Breakfast Pizza" Adds Creative Slice To Restaurant Menus

Breakfast pizza, which usually combines typical breakfast items like sausage, eggs, and cheese atop a crispy flatbread, has recently become more welcomed among customers, according to the Nation’s Restaurant News. Once considered a “culinary anomaly,” breakfast pizzas now appear on 18 percent more restaurant menus than they did in 2008.
Each eatery, of course, has its own spin on the breakfast pizza, featuring a plethora of different toppings on the typically sauceless and savory entrée. For example, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, famous for its delicious deep-dish pizzas, showcases the “BJ’s Breakfast Pizza” on its brunch menu. This decadent masterpiece features a sausage, ham and bacon omelet adorned with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, parsley and marinara sauce atop a thin crust and is served with seasoned country potatoes. Wolfgang Puck Express provides a twist on the breakfast pizza through its “Smoked Bacon Pizza,” featuring a medley of tomatoes, bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, scrambled eggs and Ranch dressing. With its crispy bacon, fresh eggs and oozing cheese, this breakfast pizza is a savory indulgence worth every single bite.
Other eateries with breakfast pizza creations on their menus include Greenleaf Organic Restaurant and Lazy Dog Café. Greenleaf, with locations in Beverly Hills, Century City and Costa Mesa, offers breakfast pizza at the latter two locations. Greenleaf’s take on breakfast pizza kicks the heat up a couple of notches with spicy turkey sausage, goat cheese spread, roasted potatoes, baby arugula, pecorino (a salty Italian cheese) and a sunny side up egg. Lazy Dog Café’s breakfast pizza, named “Sunny Side Up Pizza,” features a white pizza with sundried tomatoes, bacon, spinach and assorted cheeses and is covered with three eggs, baked until golden brown.
