Vice President Joe Biden said Washington must "take immediate action" Wednesday, following a series of meetings with stakeholders developing legislative programs on gun violence.

Biden sat down with representatives of victims' groups and gun safety organizations to hear their perspectives on how to address gun violence, reassuring the participants Washington is more interested in their voices than photo opportunities.

"We're not going to get caught up in the notion that unless we can do everything, we're going to do nothing," Biden said. "It's critically important that we act."

Obama has indicated he will use executive order in restricting gun access. Amongst the actions he could take include urging Congress to reestablish the ban on assault weapons, redefining the size of magazines and issuing expanded background checks, which will close a loophole allowing unlicensed sellers to sidestep checks. Task force members will also address implementing a national database of gun owners.

The move is expected to outrage gun advocates, who cite second amendment protection. The Guardian reported gun-rights groups are organizing a "Gun Appreciation day" the same weekend as Obama's inauguration. The conservative website Drudge Report paralleled Biden with Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin in its coverage on the vice president's Wednesday meeting.

The National Rifle Association has been outspoken on gun control legislation, instead calling for more guns to provide increased safety.

Biden will meet with the NRA Thursday, in addition to other gun-owning groups, to continue talks on gun control. The issue has been at the forefront of the nation's conscience, following the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that left twenty children dead.

Additional meetings with video-game and entertainment industries are planned.

Biden's roundtable meetings are expected to play a role in policy proposals delivered by the end of the month. President Obama has said he will address gun violence following his Jan. 21 inauguration.
