The highly anticipated red carpet looks of the Screen Actors' Guild Awards didn't disappoint. Common looks included black, sheer accents, fairy-tale lace, strapless, one-shoulder gowns, dark blue shades, sparkles, embroidery, and pastels. The SAG Awards definitely is one of the most dynamic and vibrant red carpet events of the year, often more than the Golden Globes and Oscars. This year, we see both a combination of classic couture and pieces from more low-profile designers.

Early arrivals were decked in pastels and shades of green. Katrina Bowden from "30 Rock" wore a celadon green tulle and chiffon fishtail gown by Badgley Mischka, while Kiernan Shipka from "Mad Men" wore rosy Oscar de la Renta. It got better later, however.

Black was absolutely the color of the night. Michelle Dockery of "Downton Abbey" wore a stunning vintage Ralph Rucci gown. Tina Fey opted for simplicity with a strapless black Oscar de la Renta gown, but spiced it up with a metallic statement belt. Her good friend Amy Poehler chose a minimal black jersey gown; Claire Danes also opted for a minimalist look with her one-shoulder, black Givenchy gown.

January Jones mixed up the classic colors with a black and white gown. The long-awaited Anne Hathaway looked great in her Giambattista Valli gown, emulating the fairy-tale look with sheer accents.

Another popular, deep color was dark blue. Amanda Seyfried wore a navy blue fishtail gown with a gorgeous medallion necklace to compliment it.

Brighter colors also shared the spotlight. Freida pinto rocked a hot pink Roland Mouret gown with a draped front and black satin ankle straps. Lea Michele also rocked bright-pink in Valentino.

White was the go-to color for those who didn't jump on the black bandwagon. Julianne Moore wore a white Chanel couture gown with embroidery on the skirt: simple, classy, and sexy. Going for the Old Hollywood glam look, Naomi Watts wore a silver strapless Marchesa gown.

Other big-name designers got some love. Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard both wore navy-blue Dior gowns in different styles. Cotillard effused class with a colorblocked white bodice and the high-low hem.

Detailing-wise, sheer, as well as floral embroidery, was the way to go. Michelle Dockery's Ralph Rucci had sheer cutouts revealing some side cleavage. Nicole Kidman wore a sheer black Vivienne Westwood gown with floral embroidery in the front.

"Glee" star Naya Rivera also rocked the black sheer look with a black satin corseted Donna Karen New York gown, with sheer accordion fabric revealing just the right amount of cleavage. Hathaway's gown had sleeveless bodice of sheer tulle, also with embroidery, and a full sheer skirt over a shorter skirt.

The strapless gown became the top trend of the night. In addition to Tina Fey's black, Jessica Chastain wore a strapless red Alexander McQueen gown that hugged her body and complimented her hair. Kerry Washington wore a white strapless grown by Pasadena-based designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, detailed with embroidery and lace. Naomi Watts' silver Marchesa gown was embroidered in beads. Jennifer Garner's gold strapless Oscar de la Renta, on the other hand, had lace detailing and gold sequins. While actresses like Amanda Seyfried added statement jewels, others went bare for minimalism.

It seems that the SAG Awards shone the light for high and low-key designers alike, as well as giving way for wide varieties of black and navy. Minimalism and simplicity were the hottest looks this year, as well as delicate detailing and just the right amount of sheer. The SAG Awards proves to be a hotspot for a variety of designers to get some of their riskier pieces out there.
