An American doctor was rescued in a raid by U.S. forces Sunday after being kidnapped by the Taliban.

Dr. Dilip Joseph was “in imminent danger of injury or death,” NATO intelligence found, according to the Daily Beast.

Joseph was kidnapped in the Kabul province Wednesday.

U.S. Gen. John Allen reportedly ordered the raid.

"Today's mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to defeating the Taliban," Allen said in the statement to Reuters. "I'm proud of the American and Afghan forces that planned, rehearsed and successfully conducted this operation. Thanks to them, Dr. Joseph will soon be rejoining his family and loved ones."
