Same-Sex Couples In Washington Line Up For Marriage Licenses
At 12 a.m. this morning Kings County was one of the first to open its auditor’s office and start distributing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Couples lined up as early as 4 p.m. the day before to be one of the first to receive the license. By 6 a.m. 279 marriage licenses were reported to have been issued.
But because Washington has a policy that forces couples to wait three days after the license was issued in order to get married, the earliest weddings will be on Sunday.
In the November elections Washington was one of three states to legalize same-sex marriage. The other two states were Maine and Maryland.
