Putin Signs Adoption Ban

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into a law a ban on American adoption of Russian children Friday, in reaction to a new human rights law out forward by the United States.

Reuters reported that although Putin felt the U.S. law was "poisoning relations," his latest move could actually only further hurt the tenuous relationship and the leader's image abroad.

The law is set to take effect Jan. 1, and means 52 Russian children preparing to go home with American parents will stay in the country instead.

Another impact of the ban's legislation is the cutting off of U.S. funds for non-governmental organizations. Both this and the adoption ban were added to the bill
