Every other week, writer Mara Hyman takes a look at the buzzworthy short films coming from the music video universe. Here's her latest picks:

Karmin - "Sleigh Ride"

In time for the holidays, Amy and Nick of Karmin have partnered with Coach to bring their fans an interesting cover of the Christmas classic "Sleight Ride" with their own Karmin twist. The song has the same jazzy flair with the addition of a rap verse, which surprisingly doesn't sound too out-of-place and blends well with the rest of the lyrics. The video is very flashy and almost looks like a Target commercial with the bold red and white color combo present throughout the room where it takes place. With pictures coming alive and other intersting animation effects, the video is very fun and quirky. It's also a nice change of pace to see Nick sing a lot on this song when he's not jamming out on the trombone or piano, where as on Karmin's other hits Amy seems to have more of the spotlight. Are you a fan of the rap solo or does it ruin this Christmas classic?

Hayden Panettiere - "Telescope"

I know what you're thinking...Hayden sings?! She does! The song is actually part of the soundtrack for the hit ABC series Nashville where Hayden plays a sly, upcoming country-pop star trying to take out the competition in the neck-and-neck music world of Nashville. The song plays out the story of a girl who realizes that her boyfriend was cheating on her all along and it's something he can't hide easily. It has a classic country twang with a bit of a rock edge. The song (and maybe even country music in general) seem to fit her voice pretty well! The music video has an interrogation room set-up where she drags in her boyfriend and ties him up. What are your thoughts on the song? Do you think she should sing more country music or should she stick to acting?

Florence + The Machine - "Lover to Lover"

While the song has been out for about a year, Florence + The Machine released the music video for "Lover to Lover" on November 19th. The song truly showcases Florence's vocal abilities in this power balad and takes the listener through her struggles with a relationship. The music video plays a lot with lighting, especially the scene where she walks towards a huge fire pit. It's cool to see a video like this that actually tells a story like it's a mini-movie, which is not as common today. What are your thoughts? Are you surprised they released the video so late?

will.i.am feat. Britney Spears - "Scream & Shout"

Britney is back! The music video for "Scream & Shout," which had been long anticipated as the X Factor judge's "comeback" song, debuted on The X Factor last week and has already received over 10 million hits on YouTube. The song is a strong club hit with a drop section and also a clear likeness to songs from will.i.am's group, The Black Eyed Peas. One of the most surprising parts of the song is the beginning, where Britney takes on a British accent during her verse. The song also uses humor and emphasizes Britney's popular phrase during each drop when she says "Britney, Bitch." The video makes up for the song seeming a bit generic with interesting visual effects like having cloned versions of will.i.am and Britney dancing. The strong black and white contrast throughout the video also has a strong effect. Does the song stand on its own as a club hit or do you think it was just timely promotion for The X Factor?
