Women's Rights Major Political Concern For L.A. Voter
Tanya Tall, 69, has voted in 12 elections during her lifetime, but she said this might be one of the closest she has seen.
Tall said she also realizes how much more important the 2012 race between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama will be for future generations.
“There’s a lot at stake this time, but there is a lot at stake in every election I’ve voted in," she said. "You have to vote to protect your rights.”
Tall said women's rights will play a major role in her decision. She said each candidate's views are important but she also had concerns about who they will appoint in the judicial system.
“The Supreme Court could become an issue if Obama and the Democrats in Congress don’t win," Tall said. "The next president will not only have a major role in the decisions of the next four years but also choosing another justice."
Tall said several Supreme Court justices could step down soon and she worries about how a newly appointed judge could change precedence on cases presented to the court.
“People forget how important the Supreme Court is in politics," she said. "They made decisions on big cases like Roe v. Wade. And with issues up for debate like abortion, I don’t want to see any court decisions that could set us back.”
