More than 100,000 New York City students won't have class Monday, and many will skip school until Wednesday, reports the Daily Beast.

Around 45 schools damaged by Hurricane Sandy may be closed until the end of the year, a union representative told NY Daily News.

Some schools are remaining closed to be used as housing for residents.

Many students from schools with large amounts of damage were told to go to alternate locations. This will continue until the damaged schools are safe for occupancy.

No deadline has been set for the re-opening of schools and classes.

Many of the schools that were closed are in low-lying neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
