Swing State Battleground: Arapahoe, Colorado

Arapahoe ranks as one of Colorado's most fiercely contested swing counties because of a reason that is both significant and simple: voter registration.

According to data the county's voter registration site, registered Democrats (34.3 percent of voters) hold a narrow lead over registered Republicans (30.9 percent), with both being outnumbered by voters unaffiliated with either side (34.8 percent), making for a huge chunk of votes up for grabs heading into Tuesday.

Then there's the x-factor: Arapahoe is one of just three counties in Colorado - and the only swing county - to rely on a series of controversial touch-screen voting machines as their primary means of recording votes. The machines have caused enough issues that critics fear they could be the "hanging chads" of the 2012 election, casting even more eyes on one of the more volatile swing counties in the country.
