(Note: Story has been corrected as of Nov. 15.) Following President Barack Obama's re-election, a number of individuals from states nationwide have filed petitions for secession on the White House web site.

According to the Washington Post, most of those petitioning supported Mitt Romney in the presidential race. However, some individuals from swing states and even blue Northeastern states have also motioned for secession.

So far, people from 36 states have filed online petitions and include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

So far only petitioners from Texas and Louisiana have acquired the 5,000 signatures necessary to elicit a White House response, with 77,090 and 26,309, respectively. ABC News reported the White House could avoid addressing the petitions, thanks to loopholes in the "We The People" program.

As Neon Tommy previously reported, Texas cited reasons of economic independence, stemming from the federal government's neglect of domestic and foreign spending.

Other states have been more vague, citing only the right to secede, with support from a Declaration of Independence passage.
