Mitt Romney used President Barack Obama’s “revenge” comments during a rally on Friday to cast the president as cynical and divisive, NBC News reported.

"Yesterday the president said something you may have heard by now that I think surprised a lot of people. Speaking to an audience, he said you know voting is the best 'revenge,'" Romney said at the rally. "He told his supporters, voting for revenge. Vote for revenge? Let me tell you what I’d like to tell you: Vote for love of country."

Obama made the remark Friday when he talked about Republican opposition to a Clinton administration plan to increase taxes. When Obama mentioned Romney's name, members of the audience started to boo. Obama said that they shouldn’t boo, but rather they should vote because “voting is the best revenge,” CNN reported.

Obama responded to comment in during a speech in Ohio on Saturday.

"I don't feel cynical. I feel hopeful," Obama said to the audience.
