More and more as the election nears its close, the Romney campaign seems to be co-opting Obama’s 2008 message of change and hope, CNN reported.

In the candidate’s recent advertisements, Romney’s campaign has adopted the TV show Friday Night’s catchphrase of hope with the phrase, "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose," USA Today reported.

Drawing out his promise of change, especially bipartisan reform, Romney recently remarked, "Americans have a clear choice between a tired incumbent and a businessman who can work with both parties," the Wall Street Journal reported.

In Iowa, a vital swing state, Romney repeated similar remarks. "[Obama] made a lot of promises, but they were promises he couldn't keep. I've made promises that I've kept and will keep for the American people," Romney said, adding that he is the candidate of “real change” in comparison to the status quo, NBC News reported.

Recently, the New York Times reported that Romney has been ending his speeches with a call to unity.

NYT:

“Walk together to a better place. We’ve got to take back this country.”

CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger said that the campaign shift to change and hope is not suprising because challengers typically run as the candidate of change.

CNN:

"When you're the challenger, you run as a candidate of change," noted CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger. "President Obama last time ran as a candidate of change. There was no incumbent, but he was all about change. This time, Mitt Romney is all about change, promising big change on the campaign trail."
