Measure J Leads In Early Returns

Measure J, a 30-year extension of a half-cent transportation sales tax, was in the lead in early returns Tuesday.

The measure is currently leading 63.9 to 36.1 percent, according to the L.A. Times.

Measure R was passed by voters four years ago by a narrow margin. Measure J would keep the tax in place until 2069.

The measure was backed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Those in favor f the transportation has argued that it will allow for new transportation projects.
