The Los Angeles Police Department will be stepping up security during Black Friday Sales to prevent crime and provide crowd control, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles shoppers can expect helicopters flying overhead, and officers on bikes and horses patrolling for unruly behavior during their day of sales. Other officers will be station on roof tops to search crowds for suspicious activity as well.

"For some people, shopping is a competitive sport," LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith said. "But it should not be a contact sport."

Despite the memorable headlines from previous years, Smith said that crime activity is usually low on Black Friday.
