A jury on Tuesday found a pair of Los Angeles police officers guilty of lying under oath four years ago, but were deadlocked 11-1 on a verdict for a third police officer charged in the scheme.

Prosecutors had said during closing statements last Monday that Los Angeles police officers Richard Amio, Evan Samuel and Manuel Ortiz lied in court about the circumstances surrounding their apprehension of alleged gang member Guillermo Alarcon Jr. for drug possession.

Both Amio and Samuel testified during Alarcon's trial. Jurors found Samuel guilty on five counts and Amio on two counts. A sentencing hearing for Amio and Samuel has been scheduled for Dec. 12. Samuel is no longer with the police force.

All but one juror thought Ortiz was guilty, resulting in a mistrial on the two counts. Ortiz testified during a preliminary hearing.

In 2008, the three officers testified Alarcon tried to throw a box of cocaine into a dumpster, after he led police on a chase near his apartment building. The case against Alarcon was eventually dismissed.

Surveillance video showing the officers conspiring and conducting a 20-minute search for the cocaine they say took only a few minutes to find was the crucial evidence.
