Despite a cease-fire in effect between Israelis and Palestinians, officials reported Friday the death of a 20-year-old Palestinian at the hands of Israeli soldiers near the southeast portion of the Gaza Strip.

According to The New York Times, nine others were wounded as well.

A Palestinian news agency recounted the clash, in which a group of Palestinians went to the border area to pray, but ended up throwing stones at the Israeli soldiers. The man killed in the responding gunfire has been identified as Ahmad Qudaih.

Israeli military officials said protests lined the border fence Friday, with some 300 Palestinians participating. Israeli soldiers fired warning shots into the air until some demonstrators apparently began trying to cross into Israel. The soldiers then fired at their feet.

According to government officials, there have been no discussions of buffer zone decorum since Wednesday's cease-fire.
