HBO To Release Vogue Documentary
The documentary complements the book of the same name published by Abrams earlier in October.
The documentary will focus on Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour, along with other influential Vogue editors past and present, including Grace Coddington, Tonne Goodman, and Polly Mellen.
HBO Documentary Films president, Sheila Nevins, calls the images found in Vogue “true works of art… the editors themselves are gifted, yet often unassuming, artists.”
The film features interviews with fashion industry heavy hitters often affiliated with the magazine. Designers like Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang and industry icons like Hamish Bowles share their opinions and experiences with Vogue and its editors.
“The people who are responsible for the fashion images are the fashion editors,” Wintour said in a statement. “They have always been our secret weapon, so it seemed to me that we could celebrate Vogue, and also, at the same time, celebrate these great editors.”
“The Editor's Eye” is the second documentary about Vogue in recent years. In 2009, R.J. Cutler’s “The September Issue” was released in theaters and received rave reviews.
Vogue was founded in 1892 by Arthur Turnure. Publisher Condé Nast bought the magazine in 1909 after Turnure’s death. Anna Wintour took over as editor in chief in 1988.
