"Grey's" has been switching it up a bit on devoted viewers so far this season. Throughout Thursday night's episode, viewers heard the thoughts swirling inside Meredith and Cristina's heads, something we rarely see on the show. This week's episode was mostly devoted to showing the unbreakable friendship between Cristina and Meredith, even while being miles apart.

"Beautiful Doom" shows split screens of Meredith and Cristina in different time zones, leaning on each other for support and love.

Meredith: Something viewers haven't seen yet from Meredith- her as a concerned and working mom! Meredith is struggling to balance being a fantastic mother and flawless surgeon, and often loses Zola in the hospital, unable to keep track of who's babysitting her and when. Since Derek is out of town, Meredith is forced to keep Zola in the hospital, and shows obvious guilt about leaving her with different interns and doctors while she works tirelessly with a patient.

On her way to work, Meredith sees an accident and pulls over. There she find a young woman trapped under a car unable to breath. She successfully gets her alive to the hospital, but once there, the patient's case has a strong resemblance of Meredith's sister Lexi, who died in the plane crash. With the same wounds and roughly the same age, Meredith becomes heavily attached to the patient and willing to do anything to save her. Dr. Webber is afraid Meredith's lack of mourning for Lexi's death is clouding her judgment with this patient.

Cristina: The weather in Minnesota is freezing cold, and that's just how Cristina feels on the inside. While she's getting even closer to her friend Dr. Thomas, she still feels alone, and courting her boss is both boring and not helping. Cristina gets on board for a serious surgery with Dr. Thomas, even after continuously being told that Dr. Parker wants to get rid of Dr. Thomas. After being put on probation, Dr. Thomas decides to perform a second sugery on their patient, and knows perfectly well what he's getting himself into. He's ready to "go down fighting." Cristina goes into surgery with him, and halfway through, Dr. Thomas collapses! Her only friend passes away and all viewers want to do is scream "Why!?" This was Cristina's only friend in Minnesota, the only person helping her get by. So, viewers are angry, right? The episode ends with Cristina at Meredith's door.

Creator Shonda Rhimes is brilliant. Is this the return of Cristina Yang to Seattle Grace Hospital?? Stay tuned for next week's episode to find out!
