Greetings Upper East Side Lovers,

I don’t know about you but this week’s episode, "Save The Last Chance", seriously cut into my Thanksgiving break relaxation mode, putting my stress levels at an all time high. Good thing it’s not time for finals or anything. But let me stop complaining because "Gossip Girl" stress usually means unlimited scheming and thus, epically dramatic tunes. Tunes whose bass drops as an unexpected character returns. Tunes in which guitar riffing makes you cringe as a missing piece to a season long puzzle is found. Tunes where every crescendo has you on the edge of your couch (which then doesn't seem to be too comfy anymore). And this episode was schemetastic.

As for the music, we have a lengthy playlist of nine songs, five of which are dynamite.

Oddly enough we begin with no music, just relentless barking from Chuck's dog. Bart, searching for the life threatening documents that were hidden in the painting Chuck bought from Ivy last week completely destroys his son's apartment, only to find that Chuck is looking for them as well. If Bart’s rage and heartless personality wasn’t displayed enough here, it was evident, obvious even, throughout the rest of the episode.

It’s safe to say Bart and Ivy stole the show Monday night. Bart for reestablishing his constant reign and the lengths he will go to keep it. Ivy for her pitiful naivety. But seriously, you would think she would learn that no matter who she’s pretending to be – Ivy, Charlotte, whomever – her performances will never amount to, let alone surpass, those of the Upper East Side veterans.

Serena and Dan seem to be happy though. As they lie and laugh in bed, "Humanimanl" by Fire in the Hamptons blares in the background. And while Serena seems elated to be back with Dan, a part of her is still missing Blair. I know, you’d think after so many blowouts they’d be sick of each other, but they’re not ...at least S isn't. And she interrupts the new school uniform designer, as she prepares for the launching of her line, to express just how much she misses their friendship.

Ivy, on the other hand, is more focused on solidifying and making more enemies. As she shares her possession of Bart’s documents to him and his son, she makes it clear that the father and son will have to sacrifice Lily in order to obtain them. “That’s my price. All I want is for Lily to be left with no one and nothing…and be creative,” said Ivy as Sky Ferreira’s “Red Lips” made a piercing entrance.

The song could not have been a more perfect cue for what came next. All this time we, well I, have been trying to get over Ivy’s relationship with Rufus. Turns out she’s also been with William, as in William Van der Woodsen, as in Serena’s father. So no, she was not talking to Lola last week. Ivy and William have been working and playing hard together all this time. But just as Ivy thinks she’s going to win over Lily once and for all her plan slowly starts to fail. She gets caught.

As she says her sweet goodbye to William, Rufus spots her kissing some other man [William] before he leaves in a town car. As his blood boils, he’s quick to make amends with his son and Lily, both who turned out to be right about Ivy all along.

And Ivy is not the only one to get caught amidst her scheming. Sage quickly finds out Blair and Serena’s fake plan to lure her and the other Upper East Side highschool leaders to Blair’s opening in attempt to end Serena and Stevens "re-kindled relationship." At the same time Nate finds himself in a bit of bind, between his best friend and following the fraudulent path his father inherently mapped out for him. 'Like father like son' could be more applicable to the Bass and Archibald boys right now.

In the meantime these songs were playing:

“Dancing Alone” by Dirty Radio

“Famous” by Katy Tiz

“Pretenders” by Antennas Up

“Oh My! (feat. B.o.B)” by Haley Reinhart

Not to detract from the artists featured, or their tunes, but only a few stood out during the eventful episode. Especially, Gossling’s “Heart Killer.”

(Be sure to check out the live version as well)

Played instantly as Ivy turns out to be played by Rufus (whom she thought she was playing all along), Rufus gives Lily the documents Chuck and Bart were going to have to trade in her happiness for. But it was the Chromatics “Kill For Love” that set off some of the most chilling scenes and painful lines to hear. Like Bart’s harsh words to Nate after finding out Lily redeemed his safety by burning the documents. “I own you and you better start acting like it…you owe me, sever up and get ready to pay the price,” said Bart. But what more could he want?

Like they say, the apple doesn’t far from the tree. All this time Chuck has been trying to esacpe the cold-heartedness of his father but it looks like such strong character traits are inescapable. “Stop lying to yourself. We made a pact. You fulfilled your side, I failed mine. We can’t be together…go, just go,” he said to Blair after a big gulp of Scotch. B’s clothing line may have been a success but her great love, not so much.

And finally Dan, who seemed to be back on the good ‘ol “lonely boy” track secretly veered off as he muttered in a frantic phone call from Georgina. “I’m writing a Serena chapter,” he said as Serena went to get champagne and flutes to celebrate their re-kindled love, a love in which Dan assured her would be their last, as it would last forever. It looks like S and B will soon be joining each other in the lonely lady department.

There’s a lot I was thankful for this weekend, but a drama-free "Gossip Girl" episode was not one of them. And it looks like next week’s will surpass this one. In the words of Blair Waldorf, “What’s Thanksgiving without a side of drama?” And we all know, it’s not a "Gossip Girl" Thanksgiving if drama is served somewhere...let's see if they at least make it through a meal, just so the drama has a chance of beeing a little sweeter than normal this time around.

You know you hear me, xoxo.

Ps. This might be a stretch but I've been waiting, and now I'm begging, pleading even for Kimbra's "Old Flame" to be placed somewhere in a "GG" episode. And now that Blair and Chuck seem to be over, I can't think of a more perfect episdoe closer that revoles around those two. After all, Dan and Serena have had the spotlight for long enough if you ask me. Check it out and let me know what you think.
