Gaza Militants Launch Missiles At Tel Aviv
Air raid sirens alerted residents to a missile threat for the first time since 1991, BBC reported. According to the Associated Press, one missile landed in an uninhabited area while at least one more is believed to have landed in the sea off the city. A third rocket landed in an open area on the outskirts of Tel Aviv with no casualties.
Gaza militants launched 150 rockets to Israel on Thursday, in response to Israel’s airstrike on Gaza Wednesday that killed a Hamas military chief, the AP reported.
Fifteen Palestinians have died since Wednesday.
According to the AP, Gaza militants had never reached Tel Aviv, about 50 miles north of the Gaza Strip. Israeli defense officials said they’re prepared to launch a ground invasion into Gaza if necessary.
“No government would tolerate a situation where nearly a fifth of its people live under a constant barrage of rockets and missile fire, and Israel will not tolerate this situation,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. "This is why my government has instructed the Israeli Defense Forces to conduct surgical strikes against the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. And this is why Israel will continue to take whatever action is necessary to defend our people."
