California State University officials decided to spend more time studying potential fee increases for super-seniors and students repeating a class rather than voting on them Tuesday morning.

Cal State Chancellor Charles B. Reed said the surcharges would open spots in classes for students and keep students on-track to finish their degrees in a  timely manner. The fees would raise about $30 million annually.

"The proposal to modify the current undergraduate fee structure was part of the agenda for today’s Board of Trustees meeting and will now be reviewed at a later date after Trustees gather additional information and input from stakeholders," the CSU system said in a media advisory.

Gov. Jerry Brown, who received much support from students to help pass Proposition 30 last week to avert fee increases, had not yet weighed on the idea of so-called "incentive fees."
