Adele's "21" Hits 10 Million Sales Milestone
As of this week, the smash album has passed the 10 million U.S. sales mark only 92 weeks after its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
This makes “21” the 21st album to reach 10 million sales since the firm began tracking data in 1991. “21” is one of only eight albums to hit the 10 million sale mark within two years of release. In fact, the last album to reach this milestone in a shorter span of time was 'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" in 2001, according to Billboard. Reaching the 10 million mark also qualifies “21” as Diamond status from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Although it achieved the Diamond certification in such a short amount of time, this achievement seemed inevitable for the Adele’s hit album. “21” has done remarkably well since its release: In addition to a 24 non-consecutive week streak on the charts at #1, “21” spent 80 weeks in the top ten lists and hasn't fallen off the charts since its #1 debut in January 2011.
Congratulations to Adele for this remarkable accomplishment.
