While the AMAs are all about the music, the fashion is just as important. There were plenty of off-the-mark style choices, but some hit the nail on the head—all to the tune of a common theme. Embellishment was key Sunday night as sequins, pearls, and beading ruled the best red-carpet looks.

Carly Rae Jepsen

While her style is usually more “tween” than 26-year-old, the “Call Me Maybe” singer dressed her age (and looked amazing) in a beaded, pale, floor-length Gomez Garcia gown complete with an ultra-low plunging neckline.

Taylor Swift

While a sequined gold dress isn’t much of a departure for the 22-year old, the Zahair Murad creation’s super-short length, open back, and long sleeves separate the ensemble from her typical style choices. Her upswept hair, smoky eyes, and sky-high strappy heels keep the look super-sexy, but still sophisticated. (pictured right)

Gwen Stefani

Always the risk-taker, the No Doubt front woman departed from the typical red-carpet look in a daring pearl-encrusted Balmain jacket, exposed bra and leather leggings. She balanced the edgy look with classic red lips and a pair of simple black pumps.

Stacy Keibler

George Clooney’s significant other showed off her ultra-long legs in an intricately (and beautifully) beaded Collette Dinnigan minidress.

Carrie Underwood

The country singer went glam in a long, embellished, purple-hued Abed Mahfouz gown that complimented her skin tone perfectly. The dress’s high collar and short cap sleeves add a unique element, and Underwood’s oversized earrings and sparkly clutch complete the look.

Honorable Mention:

Much to everyone’s surprise, Ke$ha managed to clean up her look in a short, pale pink dress and smooth, brushed out waves. While it’s not a “best dressed,” it’s still a step forward.
