White House Confirms Cyber Attack

White House officials confirmed Monday hackers breached an unclassified computer network in the White House Military Office, but no data appears stolen.

The attack, which occurred last month, used spear phishing to send personalized emails from recognized users. Opening the link installs software that can be used to spy on users and collect data.

The official would not comment on what data the office housed, but it prompted President Obama to introduce an executive order that would secure the country from the risk of a computer-based attack.
