Turkey announced Saturday it was banning all Syrian civilian flights from its air space, Reuters reported, after intercepting a Syrian airliner carrying what Turkey said were Russian-made munitions for the Syrian army.

Turkey forced the Syrian plane to land last week. Syria accused Turkey of piracy, The Guardian reported.

Turkey’s foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, said the decision was made because Syria was “abusing” civilian flights by transporting military equipment, The Guardian reported.

Syria also made an announcement that it was banning Turkish flights from its air space, though it’s unclear which ban came first. According to The Guardian, Davutoglu said, “The Syrian announcement has no value for us.”

Syrian military aircraft had already been banned from flying over the country.
