While the sun is still shining and the breeze is merely mild, designers worldwide have introduced their new fall/winter 2013 lines via the recent fashion week runways. For some, the winter season is synonymous with the most wonderful time of the year; but it may be driving others into panic mode, fearful that their summer wardrobe may no longer hold suit. Here are some ways you can fall, literally, right back into your stylish seasonal ways. It’s all about layering the old with the new.

Leather Jacket

If you’re looking to resurrect any of your summer florals, silks or sundresses that you have reluctantly stored away, you can. If a perfect solution were to ever exist in the world of fashion, it has officially been found. Behold, the power of the leather jacket.  Leather, a staple on the seasons’ most recent runways, is ideal for transitioning summer pieces into chic, winter looks. The beauty of the leather jacket lies in its simplicity – the jacket in itself lends a touch of style to your wardrobe, whether it’s cropped, square, or fitted, effortlessly thrown over a graphic tank for a stylish street-rat look, or paired with a flowy, feminine mini for an added edgy zing. And you can even go beyond just leather. Don’t be afraid to rock ones lined with fur, studs, buckles or zippers – you’ll be making big fashion noise with all the bells and whistles.

Scarves

You may be thinking that a simple scarf is a winter no-brainer – well, you’re right. But with this little number, you’ll be able to layer your summer staples instead of breaking the bank and buying an entirely new wardrobe. Accessories like scarves are a great way to add color to an otherwise boring outfit. With a slew of sizes, fabrics and prints, your choices are limitless. Don’t be afraid to mix and match materials. Pair a summery floral dress with a chunky, tubular knit scarf and ankle boots; revive a maxi-dress, throw on a sweater and swathe your neck in lighter linen. Scarves are just another excuse to fashionably disguise clothes that can’t be worn solo this season.

Tights

Gone are the days of tanned and toned legs. Rocking cut-offs, minis and an exposed bottom half aren’t in this season trajectory. But there is a way to show a little leg this season. The method to the madness is by sporting tights – tastefully, though. Like any other trend, it’s easy to turn something as easy as tights into a mess. Steer clear of fishnets and bold patterns. Neon hues may be hot accessories, but highlighter legs are less than desirable. When done right, though, your legs will be illuminating with bravura. Opaque and sheer natural tones can be layered with fun skirts or shorts, a la Kristen Cavallari. While some may be hesitant to partake in this bold and ballsy fashion statement and while many may consider this a major fashion faux-pas, runway rumors have it that this is a modish way to bring back some articles that would otherwise be collecting dust in the back of your closet.
