"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane has officially been selected as the host of the 85th Academy Awards.

A statement from the academy read:

"We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," said Oscar telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."

The press release emphasized MacFarlane's achievements in television, as the force behind "American Dad" and "The Cleveland show," as well as this summer's sleeper-hit "Ted." MacFarlane's directorial debut grossed $420 million worldwide, becoming one of the most successful films of the year.

MacFarlane has a variety of successful hosting duties under his belt, including Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central's Charlie Sheen roast.

The award show will air Sunday, Feb. 24.
