Gary Glitter, a former 70's glam pop star, was arrested in connection with the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal, the BBC reported.

Savile, the BBC DJ who died last year at age 84, is suspected of sexually abusing 300 minors over a 40-year period.

Classmates claimed to have witnessed Glitter having sex with a schoolgirl in his BBC dressing room. Glitter has denied the accusations.

The 68-year-old Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was jailed in Vietnam for child sex offenses in 2006.

Glitter is the first person to be arrested in connection with the Savile sex abuse scandal.
