Romney Campaign Holds Cash Advantage
Although Democrats out fund-raised Republicans in September, the Obama campaign’s heavy spending offset its increased earnings.
“The spending dominance of the Obama campaign rolled along in September. Obama's triad [his campaign, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Obama Victory Fund] spent $159.8 million in September to the Romney group's $130 million.”
That gave Romney’s triad, which consists of the Romney campaign, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Romney Victory the advantage. On Oct. 1 the triad began with $183 million to the Obama triad's $149 million.
However the Federal Election Committee filings also show that Obama has a greater control of the cash available in the Democrats’ resources then Romney has had to direct his advertising message and drive his push for votes these past weeks.
While Obama had control of roughly two-thirds of the cash available at the end of September, Romney had control for about one-third of the Republican campaign fund, USA Today reported.
Still Romney and the Republican party have been utilizing their cash advantage over Obama and the Democratic party.
“Over the past week, according to a Republican tracking media purchases, the Romney campaign, the R.N.C., and Republican-aligned groups spent about $34.6 million in the presidential race. Mr. Obama, the Democrats, and liberal groups spent about $24.4 million, a gap of more than $10 million.”
In a way, the cash positions of the candidates illustrate their advantages and risks in the final stages of the election, the New York Times reported. While Romney has more money to out-advertise President Obama in crucial swing states during these next few weeks, the campaign will be working under a time crunch to “equal” President Obama’s investment in the field which he has made already by devoting so much of his funds to push early voting in many states.
