Fall is finally here, which means that it is once again time for Treasure Island Music Festival, taking place next weekend, October 13th and 14th. 

A Bay Area favorite, its lineup is always fantastic, this year boasting famous artists such as Girl Talk, M83, The xx, and The Presets, among others. 

One of the great things about TIMF is that there are no conflicts. There are only two stages, and the set times are completely staggered, which means that audiences can see every act at the festival. 

However, that also means that great bands that may have played later if there were more stages are scheduled to play in the afternoon. So, it will definitely be worth it to get there early. Here are six afternoon acts you will not want to miss.

Dirty Ghosts - Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Based in San Francisco, Dirty Ghosts consists of guitarist/vocalist Allyson Baker and bassist Carson Binks, along with a drum machine programmed by Ian Matthias Bavitz of Aesop Rock (who happens to be married to Baker).  Though genre is increasingly difficult to define across the board in contemporary music, it is especially difficult when it comes to bands like Dirty Ghosts, who continue to cross boundaries and combine hip-hop, rock, reggae, and electro, among others.  

Grimes - Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

Canadian native Claire Boucher is well-known in the industry for being self-sufficient.  Not only does she make her own album covers, direct her own music videos, and choreograph her own dances, her third album, "Visions" (released on January 30, 2012), was recorded completely on Apple’s GarageBand and was mixed by both Boucher and her manager, Sebastian Cowan.  Boucher’s ethereal vocals combined with the live looping in her performances should make her act a memorable one. 

Toro y Moi – Saturday at 3:45 p.m.

Toro y Moi is the solo project of Chazwick Bundick. He grew up in a musical household in South Carolina and graduated from University of South Carolina with a BFA in Graphic Design. Both soft-spoken and humble, he is known for the contrast between his falsetto vocals and his funky grooves.

Imperial Teen – Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Imperial Teen is Roddy Blottom, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins. Based in San Francisco, the band recently reunited after a five-year hiatus. Featured on NPR Music’s “All Things Considered,” earlier this year, Imperial Teen’s fresh pop sound and group vocals promise to impress.

The War on Drugs – Sunday at 1:25 p.m.

The War on Drugs is a Philadelphia-based indie rock band.  Though the band has gone through multiple revisions in terms of band members, it currently consists of Adam Granduciel, David Hartley, Steven Urgo, and Robbie Bennett. Reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen and the 80s as a whole, their music makes a person want to go for a long drive with the windows down.

Wild Belle – Sunday at 2:05 p.m.

Wild Belle is a Chicago-based brother-sister duo consisting of Natalie and Elliott Bergman. Fairly new to the scene, Wild Belle is growing more popular every day, with their reggae-pop tunes and Natalie’s jazzy vocals drawing the attention of several music blogs.
