Chanel, the greatly anticipated brand of iconic tweed designs and quilted bags, brought a great show to Paris Fashion Week. Karl Lagerfeld continued the legacy of the refined collections of classic Chanel through his 1960’s-inspired Spring/Summer collection of a wide array of styles.

Lagerfeld kept the tweed fans happy with new jackets and dresses, many in the dominant silhouette of his line, which consisted of mixing sheath dresses and boxy cropped jackets in many different textiles. Black mesh overlaying bright prints, floral embroidering on strapless elegant sundresses, and boxy coats with form fitting trousers and tops were also prominent new ideas in this S/S 13 collection.
The array of designs incorporated bright and pastel colors, worked-in denim, graphic tees, shear black mesh, confetti tweed, feathered appliqués, floral embroidery and quilted pieces; essentially the collection went in many different directions. When it came down to it Chanel was able to put on a great show and appeal to the masses, including many pieces to be desired.

With the varying patterns and silhouettes Lagerfeld kept the accessories very cohesive, dressing up the line with bold pearls which were very reminiscent of the 60’s. The elegant dresses and evening looks were paired with the classic Chanel spectator shoe, but redone with see-through plastic straps for a newer, daintier look.

The casual looks of this collection were paired with strappy platform sandals that are closed toed and striped for a new take on the high heel sandal. The oversized hula hoop bag and oversized wide brimmed hats added a more summery made big statements when out on the runway, bringing up the question of practicality for a ready to wear show, but then again who doesn’t need a more room in their chic bag or more fashionable protection from the sun?

Chanel is definitely a brand to always pay attention to and this season they have not disappointed. Karl Lagerfeld branched off in many different directions, but overall brought a fun and cohesive collection that makes a fashion statement while appealing to the masses.
