"She moved her limbs today when doctors reduced sedation to make a clinical assessment," military spokesman Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa said as reported by CNN.
Yousafzai, a blogger who has defended girls’ rights to attend school, was targeted and shot in the neck and the head on her way to school Tuesday by the Pakistani Taliban.
Since the attack, the school she attended has remained shut down. However about 100 of her schoolmates assembled Friday morning to pray for her safety the Telegraph reported.
“Some cried, while others described a role model, a girl who had blogged about Taliban brutality when even the government was prepared to turn a blind eye.”
In a show of solidarity, schools in Afghanistan opened Saturday with special prayers for her quick recovery, the Associated Press Reported.
The Taliban government, which was removed from power by a US-led invasion in 2001, had enforced a strict ban on girls attending schools.
The A.P reported that some are worried that the gains made by women and girls since the Taliban were ousted from power “could be eroded” when international troops pull out by 2014.
