As the countdown to Election Day begins, Obama and Romney have returned to the public eye, refocusing their efforts on storm relief efforts, instead of the presidential campaign.

Obama held a conference call with 20 mayors and governors from states hit by Superstorm Sandy to map out response efforts. The president traveled to Washington D.C.'s Red Cross headquarters to discuss the aftermath of the storm. He warned about the risks of flooding and power outages across the nation.

"This storm is not yet over," said Obama. "The most important message I have for them is that America is with you. We are standing behind you and we are going to do everything we can to help you get back on your feet."

Obama's camp announced it would forego a third straight day of campaigning to instead travel to New Jersey to see the storm damage. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who praised Obama's relief efforts, will lead the tour Wednesday.

Romney, meanwhile, held a storm relief event in swing-state Ohio, helping pack away relief supplies headed for New Jersey. 

"We have heavy hearts this morning with all the suffering going on in a major part of our country," said Romney.

The relief event carried political undertones, with Romney airing a campaign video detailing his biography.

The GOP candidate plans to return to the campaign trial Wednesday, holding rallies in Florida. Romney's running mate Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden will also return to campaigning, adding new stops.
