Joining fellow pop stars Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger, of Pussycat Dolls fame, is opening up about her struggle with bulimia.
The singer describes her eight-year struggle with the eating disorder on a new episode of VH1's "Behind the Music," explaining that it began with the all-girl group's first photo shoot. She goes on to say, “It was all new to me and I was incredibly scared, I was not comfortable with my body.”
Despite the Pussycat Doll's incredible success with Billboard hits like "Buttons," and "Don't Cha," and Scherzinger's ever-rising sex symbol status, she reveals in the interview that she had never felt so alone, despite being a part of the group. The 34-year-old goes on to tell VH1, “I never did drugs, but kinda doing things to myself was my addiction. It’s like when I got off stage, I was on this high, and I’d come back to my room and I’d be alone, so I would just do things. My bulimia was my addiction; hurting myself was my addiction.”
According to ABC News, her struggle with bulimia began to spiral out of control until she sought treatment after the group's breakup in 2009. Post-therapy, the former Pussycat Doll won "Dancing with the Stars" in 2010 and hosted the American "X Factor" before leaving the talent competition for its British counterpart. She is currently working on her second solo album.
Ready to face the newest chapter of her life, Scherzinger says, “I feel on top of the world, and today I feel like the sexiest woman alive."
