Step aside Snooki, because this Friday, MTV will have a new star. President Barack Obama will be sitting down with the network for a 30 minute special “Ask Obama Live: An MTV Interview with the President”, to be aired 5 p.m. ET and tape delayed 5 p.m. PT.

The interview, which will be aired on all 5 of MTV’s stations (MTV MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, and MTV Jams), as well as on their website and mobile platforms, will feature the president live from the White House with MTV News Correspondent Sway Calloway, while Andrew Jenks reports from a Washington D.C. university with a group of young voters.

This is meant to be an opportunity for young voters to ask the president their own questions, which they can submit to the network’s Facebook page starting Tuesday. This is the first time that either candidate in this year’s election will engage specifically and directly with the younger voters and address their concerns, such as the cost of college, student debt, and jobs. MTV’s target audience demographic (18 – 29) represents the largest potential voting bloc in the country with 45 million people, therefore this opportunity could be very beneficial for the president.

The same offer was extended to Republican nominee Mitt Romney, however MTV has not yet heard a response.

The interview is part of MTV’s ongoing “Power of 12” program, which promotes voter registration and being informed for the upcoming election through social media sites like Facebook, Twiiter, and Tumblr.

Submit your questions for the president on MTV’s Facebook page here, and remember to tune in this Friday at 5 p.m. for the live interview.
