The Microsoft Surface aims to rival the iPad.
The Microsoft Surface aims to rival the iPad.
Microsoft released its newest product, the Surface, in stores today. The tablet boasts of a 10.6-inch-screen, outsizing its 9.7-inch competitor – the iPad.

The system comes with an array of new features not seen on other tablets.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

The 9.3 mm thick Microsoft tablet has a 1,366-by-768-pixel resolution and it runs on an NVIDIA T30 processor. It uses Windows RT, which is a slimmed-down version of Windows 8 made for tablets. It also features two cameras, one on the front and the other on the back, that both record 720p HD video. As for its slots, the Surface has an HDMI out port, a USB 2.0 port and a microSD card slot.

The Surface offers a new take on tablets. The device is intended to stray away from the notion that tablets are like toys just made for games. This tablet offers an improved system of Office programming never before seen on a tablet.

The gadget is available at $499 for 32 GB storage space, $599 if a cover is included, or $699 for 64 GB of storage space and a keyboard.
Along with the Surface, Microsoft also celebrated the release of entirely new operating system – Windows 8.

The new product takes Microsoft’s traditional approach on operating systems to a new level: a touch-screen interface.
