During Tuesday's sentencing, Sandusky said, "We’re going to smile[ ...] because I’ve always smiled through the pain.” He was found guilty this summer of 45 counts of child sex abuse during a 15-year span. Sandusky was expected to appeal the sentence. He's denied the allegations several times.

The case still weighs on Penn State's campus. Later this month, the university hosts a conference on child sex abuse featuring Elizabeth Smart, among others. Penn State's football team began the season with two losses, but has reeled off four straight wins since.
