Though sparing an old man a true life sentence, a Pennsylvania judge ordered that former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky stay in prison at least until the 68-year-old turns 98.

During Tuesday's sentencing, Sandusky said, "We’re going to smile[ ...] because I’ve always smiled through the pain.” He was found guilty this summer of 45 counts of child sex abuse during a 15-year span. Sandusky was expected to appeal the sentence. He's denied the allegations several times.

The case still weighs on Penn State's campus. Later this month, the university hosts a conference on child sex abuse featuring Elizabeth Smart, among others. Penn State's football team began the season with two losses, but has reeled off four straight wins since.

Several of the victims spoke at the sentencing. See their words here.
