Gov. Jerry Brown is attempting to increase the state fuel supply by allowing oil refineries to switch to winter-blend gasoline to decrease fuel costs, reports CBS.

He will also allow the blend to be imported to the state.

The blend was previously scheduled to be released after Oct. 31.

It is unclear what effect the switchover will have on gas prices which began to spike last week.

Some analysts are predicting the prices could start falling this week. The switch to winter-blend fuel could, however, increase the fuel supply by 8-10 percent, reports the Sacramento Bee.
