Looking for the perfect place to satisfy a late-night craving, leisurely breakfast or mid-afternoon snack?

Check out Fred 62, a 24/7 joint located in the Los Feliz neighborhood. The diner, furbished with décor reminiscent of the 1960s, provides its customers with a memorable retro dining experience, complete with unique culinary creations on its extensive menu.

Fred 62, which opened in 1997, resulted from a collaboration between designer Fred Sutherland and chef Fred Eric, according to Vivian Smith, the restaurant’s office manager.

“It (the restaurant’s name) came from two Freds both born in 1962,” explains Smith, who has worked as office manager for six years. “We (are unique because we) are 24 hours and cater to people of all tastes. A bit edgy and off the beaten path, our customers also represent our style.”

The menu at Fred 62 is almost overwhelming with a plethora of choices for the customer, ranging from pancakes, omelets and other decadent breakfast dishes to specialty sandwiches and pastas for lunch and dinner. The diner also features a separate dessert menu, which boasts one-of-a-kind creations like Punk Tarts ($4.62), the eatery’s take on the classic apple pie.

“We have a few signature dishes — The Thai Cobb Salad ($10.77), The Bearded Mr. Frenchy ($7.99) and our Mick Jagger & Cheese Balls ($7.07),” Smith says.

The Thai Cobb Salad features a twist on the original cobb salad, including shredded chicken, peanuts, chopped egg, and fried wontons, served with spicy Thai dressing, while the Bearded Mr. Frenchy comprises a thick, fluffy French toast coated with crispy cornflakes and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The renowned Mick Jagger & Cheese Balls features mac and cheese covered with cheese breadcrumbs and served in bite-size ball shapes. The dish includes about nine breaded cheese balls, each boasting a burst of cheesy flavor. The breadcrumbs’ texture contrasted nicely with the creamy mac and cheese mixture inside the crunchy shell, and is sure to satisfy any craving for something savory.

The restaurant is usually the most crowded during lunch and also attracts the late-night crowd, according to Smith.

“We have a solid lunch and after hours crowd,” she says. “During lunch, we have a business crowd, (while) our late-night crowd tends to be loud, rowdy and dressed to the nines.”

Those wanting to try Fred 62 for themselves can visit the diner, located at 1850 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles 90027.
