Ten people were killed in a bomb blast in Damascus Sunday.

The blast occurred while international peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, reports the Daily Beast.

"Syria is open to any sincere efforts for a political solution to the Syrian crisis based on respect for Syria's sovereignty and the rejection of outside intervention," Assad said in a statement.

On Friday Brahimi met Foreign Minister Walid Muallem and opposition leaders. He said he proposed a three-day ceasefire during the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha. He said some members of the opposition were open to a ceasefire if the government committed to it.

The car bomb may have been targeting a police station, according to the BBC.

Around 30,000 people have been killed in Syria in the last year and a half.
