Oprah Interviews R+B Star, Usher

In true Oprah fashion, Sunday's interview with R+B star, Usher Raymond, got right to the heart of sensitive topics, causing the singer to reveal much about his personal life from family to career to sex.

Filmed in Atlanta at Usher's home, Oprah covered many topics her OWN fan base was eager to hear about, namely Usher's highly publicized divorce and custody battle, something he had not previously discussed publicly.

Marriage and Infidelity

Regarding his failed marriage to celebrity stylist, Tameka Foster, Usher said, "I always felt like maybe we weren't ready, and maybe this isn't the time, or the way to do it. And part of that played into the demise of it."

Usher admitted that in ways, his marriage was doomed from the start. "I wanted to give her the wedding that she wanted, but I wasn't quite ready," he said. Their marriage lasted less than two years.

Regarding accusations in the press that Usher had been unfaithful to Tameka during their marriage, Oprah asked point-blank if he had been faithful to her. After a pause he said that no, he was not faithful. In his words, during their separation he "just wanted out" and did have sex with other people. Regarding Tameka's accusation that he had slept with one of her bridesmaids, Usher stated that after the divorce, he did have "exchanges" with the woman he described as a friend.

Custody

In August, a Georgia judge awarded Usher full custody of his two sons, Naviyd and Usher Raymond V, a triumph for the single dad. Regarding the outcome, Usher told Oprah, "The judge based her verdict off the facts. We were there because we weren't able to co-parent." On his ability to be a full-time dad to his sons, Usher said, "I was born ready to do what I'm doing as a dad...when I had them, that's when they became the priority."

Family

During their contentious custody battle in July 2012, Usher and Tameka were blind-sided when a boating accident left Tameka's 11-year-old son Kyle brain-damaged and on life support. He passed away three weeks later. Usher cried during the interview as he spoke of his stepson saying, "I miss Kyle".

Regarding his relationship with his mother, Jonetta Patton, Usher said, "The relationship, as with all relationships has ups and downs. It's always been strong believe it or not. She's a very strong woman and is very specific about what her ideas are. I had to come to love that about her".

Sex

During the interview, Oprah boldly asked Usher whether he has "made love to his own music" to which he admitted, yes he does! Smiling and clearly enjoying the inquiry, Usher admitted he likes to set the mood when he's wooing a lady. He went on to describe his sexual playlist as including the following:

  • Teddy P
  • Luther Vandross
  • Marvin Gaye
  • Usher

An amazing set of admissions for a one-hour TV interview. Oprah does it again!
